I have never been to therapy before, and am a little apprehensive. What can I expect?

The first session will include filling out forms and sharing the problems and concerns that brought you in. The forms are available below if you would like to fill them out before your first appointment. After that, we begin a conversation designed to help you understand your problems and begin to move forward.

I offer a personalized approach, tailored to your individual needs, to help you attain personal growth and change. I make an easy connection with people, and sometimes use my pets, especially with teens, to facilitate communication.

How do I know if a therapist is right for me?

To know if a therapist is the right fit for you, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Most importantly, do you feel comfortable and understood? (After all, you will probably be talking about some personal issues!)
  • Does the therapist seem knowledgeable about my problems and their solutions?
  • How many years have they been in practice? (More is generally better :)
  • Are they non-judgmental?
  • Is the focus of the session on me?
  • Do they collaboratively set therapy goals?
  • Do they openly answer my questions about their methods, fees, and training?
  • Do they seem energetic or always tired?
  • Are they on time for appointments?

It is important that you find a therapist that is right for you. Do not be embarrassed to trust your feelings and see another therapist if you don't feel comfortable, and don't feel like you have made some progress within 3 to 4 sessions. It is your life, your time, your money, and your well being!

If you're coming to see me for Insomnia, please fill out the Sleep History Questionnaire, and as many days of the Sleep Log as possible until your first appointment.
